Empowering Voices, Building Unity: Joining Equality Australia to Champion the 'Yes' Vote for Indigenous Recognition in Australia's Constitution

I was recently approached by Equality Australia to lend my support to the Yes vote that recognizes Indigenous people in Australia's Constitution. Later this year, Australians will vote on a proposal developed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people over many years. The proposal seeks to acknowledge that our country's history dates back 65,000 years of continuous Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural connection to this great land. It also aims to establish a committee that ensures Indigenous voices have a say in government decisions about policies that affect their communities.

I am proud to partner with Equality Australia to support this cause. Drawing from the experience of winning the Yes vote for marriage equality, I believe we can win this vote for our First Nations people to have a voice as well.

The proposal seeks to achieve inclusivity by recognizing and celebrating our shared history, listening to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people about matters affecting their communities, and making a practical difference with concrete results. This can be achieved by ensuring that Indigenous knowledge informs policies and programs and the Government hears their voices to achieve better results in health services and education.

I urge you to vote Yes to support inclusivity for all Australians, including the oldest civilization on this land. Let's champion a future where our Constitution reflects all Australians' diversity, unity, and shared aspirations, building a fairer and more inclusive nation.
